The Classic Inca Trail is one of the world’s most famous treks, offering a unique blend of breathtaking landscapes, ancient Inca ruins, and a rewarding entrance to Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). This 4-day adventure follows the original Inca pathways, passing through cloud forests, mountain passes, and archaeological wonders.

Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Wayllabamba

  • Early Morning: Pick-up from your hotel and transfer to Km 82 (Inca Trail starting point).
  • Trek Begins:
    • Pass through the Urubamba River valley, with views of Veronica Mountain.
    • Visit the Llactapata ruins.
    • Trek through Andean landscapes before arriving at Wayllabamba (3,000m / 9,842ft).
  • Overnight: Campsite in Wayllabamba.

Distance: 12 km (7.5 miles) | Difficulty: Moderate


Day 2: Wayllabamba – Dead Woman’s Pass – Pacaymayo

  • Morning: Trek uphill to the highest point, Dead Woman’s Pass (Warmiwañusca, 4,215m / 13,828ft).
  • Afternoon: Descend into the Pacaymayo Valley (3,600m / 11,811ft).
  • Overnight: Campsite in Pacaymayo.

Distance: 11 km (6.8 miles) | Difficulty: Challenging


Day 3: Pacaymayo – Wiñay Wayna

  • Morning: Visit Runkurakay ruins and trek through Runkurakay Pass (3,950m / 12,959ft).
  • Afternoon: Explore Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca, and the stunning Wiñay Wayna ruins.
  • Overnight: Campsite near Wiñay Wayna.

Distance: 16 km (9.9 miles) | Difficulty: Moderate


Day 4: Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco

  • Early Morning: Trek to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for the first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu.
  • Guided Tour: Explore the citadel, including Temple of the Sun, Intihuatana, and Main Plaza.
  • Afternoon: Return to Aguas Calientes, train back to Ollantaytambo, and transfer to Cusco.
