This short but incredible trek follows a section of the classic Inca Trail, leading to Machu Picchu through the famous Sun Gate (Inti Punku). Perfect for those with limited time, this hike offers breathtaking landscapes, archaeological sites, and a rewarding Machu Picchu visit.
Day 1: Cusco – Km 104 – Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes
- Early Morning: Pick-up from hotel in Cusco and transfer to Ollantaytambo train station.
- Train Ride: Scenic train journey to Km 104 (starting point of the trek).
- Hike Begins:
- Visit the Chachabamba archaeological site.
- Trek through cloud forests and Andean landscapes.
- Explore Wiñay Wayna, one of the most impressive Inca ruins.
- Continue to Inti Punku (Sun Gate) for the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu.
- Evening: Short descent to Machu Picchu, then bus ride to Aguas Calientes.
- Overnight: Hotel in Aguas Calientes.
Day 2: Machu Picchu – Cusco
- Early Morning: Bus to Machu Picchu for a guided tour of the citadel.
- Guided Visit: Explore the most iconic areas, including the Temple of the Sun, Intihuatana, and Main Plaza.
- Optional: Hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (if permits are secured in advance).
- Afternoon: Return to Aguas Calientes, train back to Ollantaytambo, and transfer to Cusco.
